Amtrak is established in 1971 as a quasi-public company to run a number of passenger rail lines across the United States. With more than 310 trains a day running, Amtrak offers service to more than 500 destinations in 45 states and three Canadian provinces. 400 locomotives and more than 2,100 rail carriages are owned by Amtrak for commercial operations. First Class, Sleeper Service, Business Class, and Coach Class are the four service classes that are available. It receives annual appropriations from state and federal governments to support operations and capital programs.
